Professional Career

Blake just got his Pro career started in the summer of 2008 after the Loretta Lynn’s Amateur Nationals. He was already signed to the Geico Powersports Honda team and his first race was Millville. Blake stunned everyone by running up front and finishing fifth overall in his first try. He followed that up with a tenth and a sixth at the next two rounds of the series. For a rookie to step in and compete with more experienced riders that late in the season is no easy task and Wharton proved that he will be a threat to win races in 2009.

“Pro racing is different,” Wharton says. “The motos are longer and the competition is harder but you have to race it to get that experience. You can’t duplicate it on your own. I’m looking forward to riding supercross because I know that will be even more different. Right now, it looks like I will ride the east coast series, but that could change.”

Amateur Career

Blake Wharton has had a very successful amateur career. After getting started as a little boy, he really began to pick up speed when he was about nine or ten years old.

“My first ride as an amateur was with Team Green when I was ten,” Wharton says. “I did pretty well with them and then after a couple years I went to Suzuki. Then I switched to KTM for a year and then I spent my last year as an amateur on a Honda.”
He has won three titles at Loretta Lynn’s as well as championships at Ponca City, the World Mini Grand Prix, Lake Whitney, Oak Hill, the Mini Olympics and the FIM Junior World Cup in Bulgaria.

Personal

Blake has a brother named Tyler and a sister named Erica. Tyler races and will probably get his own Bio page here someday soon and his sister is married. He has a Chihuahua named Sandy, his brother has a Chihuahua named Pokey, his sister has a Chihuahua named Louis, his mom has a boxer named Winston and his dad has a small dog named Happy and a bigger dog named Pinky. Clearly they are dog lovers... Small-dog lovers at that. When Blake isn’t riding or racing, he is playing music.

“I have a drum set, guitars and a recorder,” Wharton says. “So, I play music when I’m not riding. I like to mess around with it. I have some friends that play with me. We couldn’t ever come up with a name for our band but we like to play.”  David Pingree
