Coming from the mouth of a California resident that was born and raised in Florida and spoiled with sea level horsepower and Taco Bell as my favorite food source; I realized that I never really had a desire to go to Mexico. Well at least until 2005 when I travelled down to Mexico City to ride in the 1st annual Red Bull X-Fighters and Won! It is definitely a completely different world down there. It has its ups and downs, good spots and bad, but the best part is that there is a hunger for action sports! With the success of the X-Fighters opening the eyes of ESPN, they have held the X-Games series there the past 2 years. I would have to say that the BMX guys were the most popular, with FMX and Skateboarding following close behind. 1Lizz Leach Renner, Potter, Lusk. Best Whip podium.
I headed down to Montezuma's favorite watering hole so that I could give it a go in the Step-Up and Whip contests. Though it was super tempting to enter into he FMX portion of the shin-dig, I stuck to my guns and kept out of the mess. I say mess because this day and age, it is super tough to shoot for that podium period, let alone when your bike is running at about 80% due to the lack of oxygen at 7,800ft and there were a few riders who paid the price.
I say mess because this day and age, it is super tough to shoot for that podium period, let alone when your bike is running at about 80% due to the lack of oxygen at 7,800ft and there were a few riders who paid the price. I was only allowed to send 1 bike down due to the logistics, so I decided I would bring the 450 so that I could be at 100% on Step-Up versus the Whip comp which didn't pay as well.
My choice proved to be a good one. I won the Step-Up in a lengthy battle with Myles Richmond and got 2nd in the crowd judged (via text message) to Todd Potter. Todd had a gnarly crash in the FMX comp just a few minutes before the whip comp started, so I've got mad respect for him coming back out and whipping us. The breadwinner of the weekend was Jeremy Lusk. The X-Games Los Angeles FMX winner kept his momentum going and walked out with 2 golds (FMX and Best trick) and 1 Bronze (Whip).
Big thanks to ESPN for having us down and treating us all amazing. And a big shout out on a personal level to all the crazy fans down there that really pump me up to ride my bike and turn up the risk knob to the next level!
Don't drink the water!

Hey everyone, whats crack-a-lackin’? RR here with my first post on the new RacerX blog set-up! I’ve been pretty stoked on this whole blogging thing as I’ve been running mine for almost a year now @ http://ronnierenner.blogspot.com/. It’s been pretty awesome to sit down and basically jot down a brief overview of my weekly, bi-weekly and at some times monthly adventures. The way I looked at it is was kind of like a diary with some multi-media intentions. I am somewhat happy with the response, but this time around I’m hoping to do better. It’s my goal on this blog to get a bit of feedback from you cats regarding what the heck you all what to hear about….. Seriously. Shoot me an email @ rendawg@earthlink.net and let a craker know what your interested in hearing about from a 31 year old half washed up freestyle/freerider/dad of 2 little guys. I’ve realized that part of my continued success and ability to venture out and create new avenues for myself to keep riding and living the dream, innovating and entertaining relies on the fans and the enthusiasts to be interested. So DO IT, shoot me an email or a comment and let me know what YOU want to hear about (or not hear about).
I’m off to Salt Lake City this afternoon to try my first gig at Judging FMX. It will be for the 2nd FMX round of the AST Dew Tour that I always hated riding, but loved hanging out at. I’m planning on losing at least half of my friends in this excursion and making crap money in the process. So the way I look at it, I’ll either be coming out of retirement soon or get a new fire under my ass to start charging harder on my freeride/TV plans (obviously I don’t see a big future in the judging thing). Anyhow, with my new found commitment to this blog and recent purchase of the new “can’t get away from reality” blackberry, I should be able to drop some notes about the comp.
Stay tuned and stuff (insert beavis and butthead laugh here).. And if you get some down go down to Hart and Huntington and get one of these babies like Suzie, who claims to my #1 fan. Hardcore huh?

Wow ... that's really all I can say right now. It's been a week and a half since the Red Bull Experiment and it seems like I haven't found a second to rest (besides my 20 hours of travel to and from Madrid for the Red Bull X-Fighters). X Games is in a week and a half and I am entered in three events: Best Whip, Step-Up and Speed & Style. I have been working my butt off. Thanks to my mechanic, Andy Dalton, aka Drinky B, things are going way smoother than previous episodes of me multitasking myself into insanity.
I guess I'm still on cloud nine a bit from the experiment on July 11. The night went 100 perfect as far as the ride went. I do wish my little guys could have been there, but it wasn't in the cards I guess.... The coolest thing to me, besides going way past my projected goal, was that it actually went exactly like I had envisioned time and time again in my head.
I have to make sure and say thanks to Red Bull for making this a reality, and to all of the crew that did a killer and reliable job on set-up. From Dane Herron Industries, Freeride Technology, Jack Murphy Productions, the 20k+ fans and locals that I hope are now fans, and even to the cute little Red Bull girlies running around breaking hearts and pumping up the product. Thank for your support and hard work to make things go off absolutely perfect.

Ronnie Renner probably doesn't need an introduction, but just in case, he can whip it like nobody's business and is the current world-record holder for big air off of a quarter-pip...
