Sign of the (Lap) Times: Anaheim 3

The last time Jake Weimer competed in a muddy supercross was at San Francisco last year. His result? Last, after only completing two laps. Has he practiced for a muddy supercross since then? Doubtful. So when the skies opened up over Anaheim this past weekend, one would think that those conditions didn’t bode well for the Idaho native. However, as Jake has done so well in 2009, he proved everyone wrong and went out and put in a very solid 15 laps to take his third Lites main event win of the season, taking back the points lead which was once already his this season.

Weimer won this past weekend using both speed and coordination, and he didn’t cruise to victory—he earned it. Looking at the lap sheets, Weimer set the fastest lap time of the Lites main—a 1:03.239—on lap 12, meaning he wasn’t just cruising out front. Not surprising, the second quickest rider in the Lites class was Muscle Milk/MDK KTM’s Justin Brayton, who had the early lead but settled in for third. Rounding out the top three is Weimer’s Monster Energy/Pro Circuit Kawasaki teammate Ryan Morais, who logged a 1:03.349. Check out the rest of the top 20 below:

AMA Supercross

Defending champion Chad Reed has definitely shown he has the speed, but as of right now he’s missing a very important ingredient to the championship-winning recipe—wins. On the gnarly, slick, rutted and rough Anaheim 3 course, Reed laid down the fastest lap of the night on lap 14 of the main event, while battling his way to the front, again. His 59.479 narrowly edged out Stewart’s best lap of 59.660. Third fastest, again, was JGRMX/Toyota/Yamaha’s Josh Grant, but this time he wasn’t so close, as his fastest lap time was a 1:02.224. He was followed by a trio of Honda riders (Davi Millsaps, Ivan Tedesco and Kevin Windham), with Josh Hill, Andrew Short, Tim Ferry and Nick Wey rounding out the top 10 fastest lap times. Check out the entire field below.
