After finishing eighth overall in the 2009 Eastern Regional Lites Supercross series, Suzuki City’s Matt Goerke jumped up to the 450 class for the Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship. The decision to move up looked to be a wise one as Goerke was a solid top ten contender, and with two good motos at Freestone, he was threatening to move into the top five in points. Unfortunately Goerke suffered a broken leg in the first moto. We got this update from him today:

“I didn’t get the greatest start, and I caught up to I think seventh, and I was just passing [Cody] Cooper for sixth. And Reed was right in front of me in fifth. That was the best I’d ridden all year, because I actually caught both of them. I was just going down a straightaway in a deep rut and my left foot caught and twisted all the way backwards and I felt it break. I didn’t crash, but I knew it was broke. Luckily it was only the fibula, so as soon as I got home I went straight to Dr. Augustine. So he put a plate in it today and hopefully I’ll be back in like six weeks. I’m hoping to race the last five or six. Right now I’m in the best shape of my life, so I think I’ll still be in decent shape in six weeks. The bike is getting better every week and everyone is working hard on my team. I would’ve probably moved into the top five in points after Texas, but that’s how it goes. I’m just bummed.”
