Driven to Ride: Episode 21

Tuesday, August 21, 2012 | 1:55 PM

Tucker Saye runs into some bike issues and is now sitting without a bike. Derek Anderson barely squeaks into the motos at Unadilla and walks away with a 19th overall. Heading into the weekend off, the Colorado privateers plan to spend some time in Long Island, prepare for the final two rounds, and find a way to get Tuckers bike fixed.

Is it just me, or have these episodes become depressing to watch? I mean, I get it, racing is hard, but dang. Have these guys ever had the feeling they were out of their league?

Maybe stay back in the amateurs for a while and consistently win some races - then step it up into the pro ranks. Just barely squeaking by race after racing "hoping" to get a few points is defiantly the heart of a racer, but really has no wisdom behind it.

I play AA baseball and hope to make it to the pros some day, but I'm defiantly not leaving my program early to try out for spring training for the Rangers - that would be ridiculous, I'm clearly not ready for the pros, nor that level of competition.

So what's the difference with racing? Just asking, so don't blast my question with negative opinions. Thanks

P.s The dude's motor blew up. You're telling me you've got tons of sponsorship funds to travel the country, a nice motor home, and extra gear - and do all this on 1 motor? No spare? Am I missing something?

dude! haven't you guys watched winners take all?

out of all the people watching and rooting for you, we can put together a bike from parts.

all it prolly needs is a kick from the bear

Killocac....Actually they are driving an old motorhome...most everything inside of it doesn't even work...it just looks nice because they had it wrapped in stickers for this series. If you were following these videos you would realize that Tuckers other bike had a bad knock in it after Washougal. They don't have unlimited funds and are living day to day....don't kill their dream....they are making it happen and acquiring tons of fans in the process. If you can consistently make it in to the program and score points..I think you are doing just fine!

So racing amateurs will make them faster? Derek has made top 10 more than once this season. Its what they want to do, and they are doing a pretty damn good job at it.

Kilocac - you clearly don't get it. If you had a clear understanding of how motocross works you wouldnt ramble on with a comment like that. The majority of racers that show up Saturday morning don't get the opportunity to race the motos. Derek and Tucker don't have endless amount of sponsorship help to allow them to carry extra motors. If you've watched all the videos you should know that Derek has had a few top ten finishes and is doing pretty damn good as a true privateer on a stock bike. Tucker on his first year has qualified for a few races and that in itself is something to be proud of. Plus, our motorhome that we get to travel in was paid for out of Dereks wallet. He worked two jobs all winter saving every dime he had to be able to buy that beast. I couldn't be more stoked on how these guys have done all season and I couldn't have picked two better clowns to film for the summer. Keep up the killer work dudes! Now let's get the hell out of this Starbucks and get back on the road!
