Schiffer, while a great rider, no longer competes in the GP´s, so really, Max didn´t have any real opposition in Tensfeld. He certainly didn´t look like a world beater on the day, but then again, it´s still early days.
Not surprisingly, KTM decided to replace him in the works team for 2013 two days later, so obviously they too were not impressed. Having said that, I believe Max needs a bit more time to fully recover from what was a life threatening injury. He is known for his work ethic and strength of character, so it´s a fair bet he´ll be high up on the shopping list of the other works teams for next year. Afterall, he´s only just turned 24 and if he can return to his recover his health, he has to be a WC contender..

Sad, Nagl seems like a good guy and, though not a champion, has been a consistent top 5 guy for KTM. Euromike, according to this posted on his website he was released even before Tensfeld, an English translation is below if needed: http://www.maxnagl.de/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=186:max-faehrt-2013-nicht-mehr-im-ktm-werksteam&catid=71:raceberichte&Itemid=96

"Max Nagl will no longer compete for the RED BULL KTM Factory MX1 Team in 2013. As Stefan Everts personally shared with Max last Thursday, KTM will be forgoing the services of the 24 year-old Bavarian in 2013. The message took the Belgian resident totally by surprise in his comeback phase and one day before his departure to Tensfeld. Until this point, there had been no indications on the part of KTM of such an action. Max Nagl will therefore, after the Motocross of Nations in Lommel look for a new challenge after five years with the KTM works team. Where his path will now lead is currently total unclear. In the next days and weeks, Max will see how it looks for him in 2013."

Max Nagl: „I was totally surprised by the message. With my comeback I wanted to recommend myself to KTM for the coming year. I just have to accept the decision. Notwithstanding, I would like to thank KTM for the last five years on the works team. It was a fantastic time with its ups and downs and of course my greatest success, the runner up position in the 2009 World Championship. In the next races I run I will naturally give it my all so as to get a spot on a works team in 2013.“

"As soon as there are updates pertaining to a new team for 2013 we will let you know"
