respect...real champ...!
the human spirit - i have always liked this kid - now i know why
There has always been something about people like Christophe whom have come back from catastrophic injuries as he has that I can relate to.
When I was 19, a few years younger than he, my brother and I went in 50/50 on our first dirt bike, a '72 Honda 250 Scrambler. We flipped to see who would ride the bike home that day from the dealer. He won the toss, so he rode it home and I drove the car home. On the way home, in less than 10 minutes, somebody turned in-front of him in an intersection on the highway and he hit the car broadside at 35mph.
He was not as fortunate as Christophe to make a complete recovery. My brother was 23 when he had his accident, that was 40 years ago. I have lived my brothers pain for that 40 years and live a little bit of what Christophe has had to battle to persevere and come from as he say's, about the covers being pulled up and over you.
For those who have never experienced catastrophic back injuries, involving paralysis or, had it come as close to you as a brother or family member, then you have no clue what Hell, Christophe, Mitch Payton, David Bailey Pit Beirer, Andre Malherbe, Danny Chandler or the countless other unfortunate souls with spinal cord injuries go through the (rest) of their lives.
Thanks for sharing that obviously difficult to talk about dark side of your past.
I am very pleased to see you up and around even, let alone racing again, Champ!
Good luck with whatever your plans are, Christophe.
It’s hard not to respect a guy like this. However, I think I speak for a lot of motocross fans when I say this, but I never cheered for the guy when he raced in America. I had no idea this was all in his past, and I think had I known this I would have felt differently about CP377. Lots of people couldn’t stand listening to his poor English on the podium, but I’m glad they shot this film in French. Going through this has to be every motocross riders’ biggest fear.
whole new respect now...............used to think he was a whiner,
but hearing himself speak in his language cleared up a lot...........
Wish him the best!
