Once Again Feature Eight Rounds of Action
Round-by-Round Recaps to be Seen on NBC Sports’ Weekly Highlight Shows
MORGANTOWN, W. Va. – The Women’s Motocross Championship, sanctioned by AMA Pro Racing (WMX) returns for another eight-race schedule for the 2012 season of Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship, sanctioned by AMA Pro Racing. Perennial rivals Ashley Fiolek and Jessica Patterson have won the past four WMX Class titles and will once again lead the world’s fastest women into action for what is sure to be a highly-competitive summer.
The WMX Class will be showcased as the first set of motos at each of the eight rounds of the championship. As in years past, the women will engage in a pair of 15-minute motos to determine an overall winner. The gate will drop on the WMX Class’ opening moto to kick-start the day’s festivities, with the second moto following just prior to intermission.
“The WMX Class is always an exciting battle and you can expect that to continue this summer,” said MX Sports Pro Racing’s President Davey Coombs. “Over the last four years, the quality of racing has gotten better and better thanks to a continued increase in the depth of talent. The championship has clearly emerged as the world’s premier series for female riders and the WMX Championship boasts more factory-supported riders than ever before.”
The 2012 season will also mark the WMX Class’ return to television. Each round of the championship will be featured in the weekly Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship Highlight Show on NBC Sports, recapping the captivating moments and storylines of all eight Nationals.
The WMX season kicks off on May 19 from the Hangtown Motocross Classic in Sacramento, Calif. Fiolek and Patterson will be challenged throughout the summer by veterans Tarah Gieger and Mariana Balbi, in addition to up-and-coming riders like Jacqueline Strong and Vicki Golden and Sayaka Kaneshiro.,
Following Hangtown, the schedule will take the women to staple racetracks – Hangtown, Freestone, Thunder Valley, High Point, RedBud, Washougal, and Moto-X 338 before joining their male counterparts in the 250 and 450 Classes at the inaugural race at Lake Elsinore Motorsports Park, the 2012 season finale.

Looking forward to the WMA this year, sometimes they have the best battles, and they are getting some stlyi now. Before they were clearing everything but not with authority, now they straight rip. The top girls have stayed pretty healthy and have been racing national tracks for a few years now, good stuff.
Hey @mrs.mx
Thunder valley is the only pro caliber race we get here. My daughter and I would be bummed to lose the wmx
round.
I can't believe the official schedule gets released 10 days before the first round. Can you imagine the men's National series schedule being announced 10 days before the first round?
What would it really matter anyway except for Broom and now freestone added and colorado the schedule is the same for the last million years Oh I forgot about Kenworthys missing and Highpoint being moved of traditional Mermorial day big deal they know what the drill is by now Just Sayin!!!!!!!!!!
Is that one chick with the long black hair on a Kawasaki racing this year? I think the name is J. Hansen or something like that. Is that Jolene Hansen?
look out for a little Aussie girl, Meghan Rutledge. Ridiculously fast, she'll make an impression straight away!
It's a bummer that Vicki Golden couldn't get a ride this season, she said she's not going to be racing outdoor nationals this year. She did say that she was planning on doing X-games though, which is awesome, because she's got some serious scrubs and whips... it will be amazing to see her show her skills at X!
Big thanks to Davey Coombs for hooking the WMX with more exposure for this year, he' gets a lot of crap from people about not doing more for the WMX racer, but he has really been one of their biggest supporter and doing all that he can to help the WMX grow. People definitely want to see more of the WMX and now hopefully sponsors will continue to help the women out more also to the sport grow even more, because hands down this is the greatest sport on the planet. Thanks again to Davey and the MX sports family!!
